Monika Celebi –A Friendly Mirror – Reaching out to support parents and babies using video Interaction guidance (VIG).
Monika will talk about her experience of conducting Video Interaction Guidance face to face and online with parents and babies. She will share some of the basic principles of attunement and guidance, and aspects of the six-step VIG process. Showing video excerpts from her work she hopes to convey how we can support parents to look at themselves from the outside with a benign lens and to help them identify misconceptions such as ghosts in the nursery; by receiving parents’ difficulties and gently challenging their projections we can encourage the transformative process of becoming a good enough parent. Monika will address some of the obstacles parents, babies and early years practitioners face under the restrictions of Covid 19. She will share how she has managed to compensate for the enforced social distancing and she will encourage us to think of ways to activate the social engagement system, connecting with isolated parents and babies, who need our help now more than ever.
Debbie Brace –Settling in Unsettling Times-holding staff, children and families in mind as they return to or start nursery.
Debbie will share work on how she has been supporting education practitioners working with children aged from 0-5. The Hounslow based Let’s Talk Together programme works with 50 different early years setting across the borough and these settings have been working hard to stay connected with their families and their children during the pandemic lockdowns and through periods of isolation. Debbie will share specifically how they have supported staff, children and families to ‘hold each other in mind’ as they settle or re-settle into school and nursery in such an emotionally unsettling time.
