AiMH UK London Hub Event - 'Facilitating a psychoanalytic parent, baby and toddler group for refugee and asylum-seeking families'

Dr Teresa Sarmiento, Fatima Martinez Del Solar and Professor Inge Pretorius will share about their work running and supervising a Psychoanalytic Parent Baby and Toddler Group for Refugees and Asylum Seeking Families.

Friday 5th May 1.50- 3.30pm

A presentation and discussion about this group work which aims to enhance the attunement and attachment between the parent and their infant and toddler, with a view to strengthening their relationship , and facilitating separation and individuation, so that the toddler can manage growing independence and prepare for nursery and school. The group aims to lessen social isolation by encouraging families to share their experiences and strategies.

2pm -3.15pm: Presentations:

• Ms Fatima Martinez del Solar, Psychoanalyst and Group Manager, who ran therapeutic groups in the community in South London for several years.
• Dr Teresa Sarmiento, Parent-Infant Psychotherapist/Clinical Psychologist, who has worked in Parent Infant services and CAMHS for many years in the NHS.
• Professor Inge-Martine Pretorious, Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist, who has run and supervised Psychoanalytic Parent Toddler groups for many years and is the group’s supervisor.

3.15pm – 3.30pm: Q&A (questions fielded by Coretta Ogbuagu)
