2-hour Workshop: Using PEMA to Recognise Strengths and Understand Risk in Parent-Baby Interactions.

Friday 26th September 1.00pm – 3.00pm ONLINE

Join internationally renowned developmental psychologist Dana Shai for a 2-hour workshop on the innovative Parental Embodied Mentalising Assessment (PEMA) — a powerful framework for recognising both strengths and risks in parent-baby relationships. Dana, a global leader in mentalisation-based approaches to early relational health, brings cutting-edge research together with hands-on clinical relevance.

PEMA (Parental Embodied Mentalising Assessment) is an observational tool developed to help practitioners understand how parents and babies connect with each other through subtle, non-verbal interactions. The focus is on Parental Embodied Mentalising (PEM) — the parent’s ability to notice, interpret, and respond to their baby’s mental states as expressed through movement, gestures, facial expressions, and body language.

In this interactive workshop you will build on skills to:

  • Identify strengths in parent-infant relationships
  • Spot early relational risks in bonding
  • Support parents in tuning in more sensitively to their babies
  • Apply these insights directly to clinical and community practice.
