AiMH UK Supporting Baby Communication Week 2026

Baby Communication Week is an important opportunity to raise awareness of how babies communicate from the very beginning of life — long before they use words.

Led by the Brazelton Centre UK, the campaign highlights the ways babies express themselves through their facial expressions, movements, sounds, behaviours and relationships, and encourages parents, carers and professionals to better understand and respond to these communications.

When babies experience sensitive, responsive relationships, they are more likely to feel emotionally safe, understood and connected. These early interactions help support infant mental health, brain development and secure relationships.

Alongside the resources and events shared by the Brazelton Centre UK, organisations, NHS trusts, charities and practitioners across the UK contribute learning opportunities, reflective resources and activities throughout the week.

As part of Baby Communication Week 2026, AiMH UK is sharing our resource “25 Things Every Baby Would Want You to Know”. This reflective resource encourages adults to pause and consider the world from a baby’s perspective — recognising babies as unique individuals with thoughts, feelings, preferences and emotional needs from the very beginning.

The resource explores themes including:

  • Being accepted
  • Relating to babies
  • Play and interaction
  • Feeling safe
  • Comforting and understanding babies
  • Sleep and soothing
  • Transitions and separations
  • Brain growth and infant mental health

Through simple, reflective messages, the resource aims to support more attuned, connected and emotionally responsive relationships with babies.
